About Me

"Hi, I’m Maisie. Whether you’re looking to learn a new instrument with or without grades, I’m here to make your musical journey light-hearted, fun and personal to you!"

I am a Classical Music Performance & Fine Arts graduate from Bath Spa University. Whilst I specialised in Flute performance to degree level, Piano has always been an equal passion of mine! I strive to bring laughter and room to breathe in my lessons, and create an environment where joy and curiosity come first. Starting an instrument should be an adventure and I’m here to build your confidence from the very first note!

About The Lessons

If you are looking to work through your grades, we will work towards getting these qualifications via the Trinity examination board. The reason I teach using the Trinity syllabus is because it focusses on musicality and overall performance. For Piano, the main pieces that you will play include Classical Favourites and Pop Songs as well as Music from Film and Video Games. For Flute, they include popular classics, folk tunes and music from stage and screen. I find there is lot of variety in their music choices making it is easy to find music you will enjoy.

Working towards grades is a great way of structuring your learning with clear milestones, goals and objectives. However, if you are looking to build your skill without grades, there are many ways to do this. We will look at Sound and Improvisation, Technicality and Skill, Chord and Melody and visualisation, whilst learning the music that inspires you most.

It’s okay if you are unsure, we can work together to find the path that is most suitable for you!

Book an

Introductory Session

In your taster session, we will spend time chatting about the music that moves you - whether it’s a film/TV score, a pop anthem, or a classical masterpiece - so I can tailor your roadmap to your taste. From there, we’ll dive straight into the basics of the flute or piano, getting you comfortable with your instrument and making your very first sounds. This first taster session will give parents/guardians an opportunity to air any further questions before we start lessons the following week.

Your Instrument

Before we begin our musical adventures, you’ll need your very own instrument!

For flute students, you will need to source your own flute, as I won’t be providing these for lessons. Younger children often find a flute with a bent headjoint more comfortable, while older students usually suit a straight headjoint. The good news is that flutes are easy to find online — you can buy new, purchase second-hand, or even rent one. There are plenty of options available to suit different ages, sizes, and budgets, so you’re sure to find something that works perfectly for you.

For piano students, we’ll use my piano during lessons, but you’ll need access to either a piano or a keyboard at home for practice. There are lots of great options available online to suit all spaces and budgets.

If you’re ever unsure about what to choose, I’m always happy to point you in the right direction. I can’t wait to get started making music together!
